I would suggest to purchase the tickets when the situation is more certain; that is, wait until your parents will be able to make the trip. For most destinations, you will be able to find PZ spaces (upgrade fare class) for upgrade with Plus Points.

The value of 80 Plus Points is probably far less than $1000 during the Pandemic. If the fare difference between W class and a lower discount fare class is $200-300, purchase the W class to save the Plus Points. In this case, you make sure that you can use the saved Plus Points.
