Don't know if this was standard practice for JFK as this was my first time into JFK on a 757.
the same thing happened to me on 28 when i arrived on sunday morning oct., 10th. it caught the f/a's by surprise so i think it might have been a jet bridge issue as when i looked at the nose gear thru the terminal window, it was dead on.....
