Does anyone have any suggestions about which is the simplest and easiest way to check-in for WT+ going Syd to LHR? (And also for the return?) We won't have much baggage, probably one light checked bag each. Have never used online or telephone checkin, and was intending to use the regular desk checkin.
One complicating factor: looks like Y is full, W is full (bucket shows WX T0), but J and F are almost empty (high yield aircraft via Sin), so what mode is best for our chances at the U word? We are booked in full W, but are both BA blue (will hit silver in a few months)/QF club bronze, and will be in blazer + slacks + open collared shirt and, for my wife, whatever the female equivalent is.

So the dreaded U word appears again.
As I have said before on this board, the best thing to do about getting an upgrade is say nothing!
If particular classes have been oversold, the agents will be told to look for suitable M-W, W-J, J-F upgrades. The first set of upgrades would be done on exec card (golds and silvers). Then if they are still looking for upgrades, it becomes a bit of a lottery. I hate to say this, but your Blue card will not be of much help. As there could be a large number of Blue card holders on the flight. Check-in, only see you as a tier, rather than the fact that you are at the top of blue.
If you have a special meal ordered (veggie etc), that could rule you out, of the upgrade running.
If you do mention the U word, it is highly unlikely anything will happen. It is a case of being polite and nice to the agent.
I used to have so many pax come up to my desk and even before saying "hello" to me, the first words out of their mouth would be "whats the chance of being up-graded today"....as soon as they said that, there was no chance. All the agents in T4 will be working to that rule.
There is nothing better, than telling a pax, who wasn't expecting or looking for an upgrade, that they have been upgraded!
