Possibly other airlines in different airports do this? In our airport we strictly have PASSENGER and we have CARGO airliners. No in between.
Then you must be working in a smaller airport that is only serviced by smaller airplanes (narrowbodies and RJs). Widebody aircraft carry cargo all the time -- they are in part designed to be able to do this.
