Questions about award holds and waitlists

1. Let's say I find award availability and plan to transfer credit card miles to my KrisFlyer account to pay for it. I have read that one can call KrisFlyer and ask them to hold the ticket while I wait for the miles to transfer. Some blogs now say that they are charging a $25 fee to hold the ticket for up to 4 months, whereas others say they were charged nothing to hold the ticket for a few days. Which one of these (if any) is true?

2. Let's say I hold the ticket and then transfer the miles. Now my KrisFlyer account has enough miles to waitlist other routes or cabins. Can I get on those waitlists before I spend the miles to book the held ticket?

I'm asking #2 because the most common advice is that if you want to book one ticket and waitlist others, you need to have enough miles in your KrisFlyer account for two tickets: the one you book plus the one you waitlist. But it seems like the above sequence avoids having to transfer that many points. The sequence is: hold flight 1, transfer miles, waitlist flight 2, book flight 1 with miles, and if the waitlist clears, cancel flight 1 and use the miles to book flight 2.

3. Let's say I am booking tickets for two people using my KrisFlyer account. After I transfer enough miles for two J tickets, I'll have enough miles to waitlist one Suites ticket on the same route. Can I first get the other passenger on the waitlist, then myself? (Even though I don't have enough miles in my account to pay for two Suites tickets.)

4. Finally, let's say I waitlist for Suites and book J using the strategy in #3. The Suites clears, but when I cancel the J booking I don't have enough points because Suites is more expensive. Let's say I immediately initiate a transfer of points to pay for the difference, but the deadline to confirm Suites approaches and the transfer hasn't completed. Will KrisFlyer extend the deadline in this case?

Thanks all you experts, and Happy New Year!
