Last week MIA-IAD I sat next to a 767/777 driver who was on his way to work (IAD-GRU). He lamented at length the reductions in transcon 777 service, saying that it reduced UA's competitive advantage. He was also disappointed about the downgrades to 767-300 metal for South American routes (that's what he mostly flies with the occasional 777 to Europe) but as he put it he still has a flying job.
He also mentioned that he expects to see UA completly pull out of MIA in favor of FLL. No basis in fact he said, just an educated guess based on what he sees going on at MIA, costs to UA at MIA, and rumors going around the MIA base.
