If this is not a maybe booking then you're ok to book on AA. AA will allow you to rebook cheerfully if there are changes or cancellations, and if there is a cancellation you can get a voucher or refund. If you are concerned that the flight will operate and you can't be onboard, that is a "maybe" booking, whether BA or AA.
