china / rice - all I’ll say is that business meals with exporters and factory owners and agents didn’t include rice. Mega sigh. This was 1992-2006; I haven’t returned since early 2007 and I’m hoping to never return. China, HK, Taiwan.
Wow I can't imagine eating chinese w/o rice and when I was there (as a tourist) it certainly was omnipresent in the restaurants - but they were many cuts below the places I imagine you ate
