We were held up an additional 30 minutes or so at Border Control (T2) on Christmas day whilst they took our passports (EU with pre-settled status) away for what I assume was a check on our immigration status. So based on that one experience alone, I would think that your guess is about correct.
We flew EK in F and had EK chauffeur drive booked. They (Addison Lee is currently their contractor) sent a text with the phone number of the driver. I called him from the 'holding pen' and explained that we were held up a bit and asked him to wait which he did.
