I could see if it were the Presidential suite or even the Large suite, but it’s the same as the standard suite with a higher location/view. Maybe they are stingier with upgrades in the high-season, but the hotel was only 25% occupied, so it’s hard for me to believe no standard suites were available for a Globalist. Overall, this left a bad taste in my mouth and will likely make the difference between us coming back for a third visit or returning to Andaz Mayakoba where we’ve been treated better with upgrades.
Thanks for the detailed stay report!
I can see why the attempted upsell for the upgrade would be frustrating. At the same time, I'm personally willing to cut these resort properties a little slack right now, as I suspect they likely viewed the holiday period as their only time to make any real money from March 2020 until whenever the pandemic ends. In that spirit, we paid a not insubstantial amount for the upsell to a Beach Front Studio at Andaz Mayakoba over New Year's.
