Overall, I think Sapphire Reserve "insurance" benefits are superior to American Express, with the exception of emergency evacuation, but the American Express benefits are "good enough" for many purposes.
American Express 5X applies only to prepaid hotels (and to airfare). Booking prepaid hotels through any agency makes changes or refunds complicated. Pre-pandemic it was often possible to estimate the probability that a specific trip would need to be changed, but now we cannot always make our own decisions.
Excellent point(s) as always Mia, IMHO, I think the prepaid hotels with the AMEX Plt make a lot of sense with non-chain hotels when you want some elite like benefits with the Hotel Collection and/or the Fine Hotel and Resorts collection. Sometimes, you can get real deals.
