I assumed that the route will be YYZ-DXB due to the large traffic (business and leisure) between the two cities. That is strongly evident and visible with EK, EY, AC flying and making money on that city pair.

The second reason is the convenience of YYZ for transit passengers from east of Canada and US. You can't fly from LGA or ORD to YYC to catch this flight. While going through YYZ will be more convenient.
