Intercontinental Singapore

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
> Booked 1-night "Club InterContinental King" (during a 3-day flash sale in early 2020).
Hotel cancelled the booking a 2 days before the stay as they had converted into a quarantine hotel. Hotel offered to honour the rate for a new booking later in the year.

> Rebooked some months later after they reopened - but after booking hotel confirmation email informed us that almost all the hotel facilities were closed and the only a few rooms above the bar were actually available so we cancelled.

> Rebooked near the end of the year albeit into an "Club Deluxe" Room (at the time we didn't realise this was a different category from the "Club InterContinental King" what we had originally booked)
Booked 3 nights (2x Cash in Club, 1x IHG Credit Card Night Voucher without Club).

> At Check-In received an 'upgrade' to a "Club Grande Deluxe" room.

How are the rooms?
Felt too narrow, dark and crampt; overall floor size described as larger than regular rooms, but most of the space seemed to be given to the bathroom; one window on the side of the wall didn't help.
It was nice having a desk behind the sofa, both in front of the TV, but besides this the room felt like it had been squeezed into the remaining space on that floor.
Small table for a duffle bag, but nowhere to put a normal sized suitcase without blocking the floor area.
Room was fairly quiet until the third day when people in the adjoined room arrived.
Room could have done with a better clean - dusty ceiling lights where the dust dropped each time the door was open/closed creating a sneezing frenzy and previous occupants rubbish found in the desk draw.
Light switches in the room were quite rubbish as they often didn't work or would come on without asking (especially the switch for the bathroom light).

How is the exec. lounge?
Nice decor and very attentive staff; service was table based like an afternoon tea; not allowed to get your drinks.
Food was nice but heavy on the sweets (not many savouries).
A few children in the lounge; generally well-behaved at first but got a bit noisy on some days (seemed like some staycationers were hanging out in the lounge all day like a creche).

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Staff in the lounge were good; same staff managed the Club-corner of the restaurant during breakfast service. Reception staff let us keep the same room for the third night depsite it being on a IHG Credit Card Night Voucher which is usually restricted to booking Heritage Rooms.

Bad: Not really sure if we got an upgrade or downgrade (should really be obvious shouldnt it?) - the room certainly felt like a downgrade based on previous rooms I have stayed in. Quite annoying given cash prices for Club Deluxe, Club King and Club Heritage were all the same at the time.
Felt like the service had been changed from the regular offering for international travellers to local staycations; might be welcomed by Staycationers but not really up to scratch for my expectation particular given the prices being charged.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
No; whilst the staff in the Club Lounge were good, the rest of the hotel was lacking service and felt like they'd overdone the penny pinching. Plenty of other alternative places to stay these days
