I've long been convinced that some hotels instruct housekeepers to ignore DND signs and knock anyway as they go down the hall on checkout day. Maybe they think this results in people vacating rooms earlier than they otherwise would. I've seen housekeeping supervisors do it and I've seen far too many shrugs when I complain.
"We have rooms to clean - just go ahead and knock on those sleepyheads' doors!"
