If you want status to skip the lines, invest in Clear and Global Entry.
If you want status to get free bags, get a credit card.
If you want status for lounge access, get amex platinum or similar card.
If you want status for more legroom, pick exit row seats (usually free) or pay the small upcharge for economy-plus when it matters.
If you want status for free lie-flat seats, realize that this is a rare upgrade for mid-tier status, so just simply make the rare splurge with money.
