Your point was?
My point was, and is, that with five hours I could comfortably clear DXB immigration, get my checked luggage, hop in a taxi, and make it to AUH in time to check in for a flight there. As for delays and reschedules, well that's a risk with every connection, and one needs to consider their risk tolerance. Certainly a 5-hour connection leaves a lot of room for error, but to state that "[r]ealistically 5 hours minimum" is needed is at the extreme end of conservative.

In the case of the OP, who will be traveling on two separate tickets, I wouldn't be comfortable even with five hours. Were it me, I'd plan to overnight in Dubai. As mentioned in the other currently active "BA and Dubai" thread, there's a brand new Sofitel Obelisk hotel that's beautiful, has great restaurants, is only about 10 minutes from DXB, and currently can be booked for around £100/night.

Merry Christmas everyone!
