You can string it out for a few months, so long as your first sector was cancelled by BA, there isn't really a deadline, though your ticket may expire 12 months after it was ticketed. It's possible MMB will show you change options during the BA operational period. Thereafter BA will rebook you on to BA codeshares on Qatar, which exist to SEZ. Now these codeshare currently look rather busy, this may become tidier after Christmas and New Year. Just watch the weather situation in SEZ after April, there is a reason why BA stop flying, it's when the south east Trade Winds tend to dominate, so it's often warmer in the UK in July than SEZ.
I would also say that airlines love to give the impression that their Sale fares are the best ever and will never be beaten. So I don't believe the era of bargains has gone away. Cash is king, as they say, so don't overlook the refund options.
