The flight was JER-LHR. I actually managed to get through to the call center, and she suggested that we cancel the first leg, book flights and taxi, and then submit receipts after to get refunded. It would be much better for me if they would rebook onto the Blue Islands flight to Southampton, and arrange the transfer to LHR. Unfortunately Blue Islands is not an IATA member, nor is easyJet, so BA can't book you on those options. So the claim idea is best. There is a usual cap on taxi fares of £50 so your best bet would be train to Woking and taxi from there, the SOU airport station is just past the taxi rank anyway. I hope BA would pay this, in the past it's been a bit of a mixed experience, but EC261 is largely on your side here. However that makes it all the more important to spend money as if you were not going to get refunded.
