The Wiki is also inaccurate about this: "Mobile Passport Control requires passport with a expiration date of 6 months or more."
In 2019 and 2020, I've repeatedly used MPC in conjunction with US passports that had less than 90 days of remaining validity on them.

At places this year and last year where I've presented MPC receipts on the phones:
If I'm asked to show the MPC receipts twice, then the first presentation of the receipt has been to clear the immigration formality aspect and have the receipt-backed customs declaration accepted in a way at that point. And the second presentation of the receipt has been after baggage belt and is for CBP to look at something to make sure you are good to go. In the case of the second receipt presentation for examination, at times they do scan the receipt before letting the passenger to proceed out of the federal inspection area.
