Oh you're so correct! I just looked and I guess it takes a full 24 hours after you buy miles for it to update. Mine just updated as well to 12/31/2021. What a relief! Thanks for posting.

I also just got an email from LifeMiles just now that confirms that ANY accrual extends expiration by 12 months, contrary to what some bloggers have posted in the past.
