I've previously considered exactly that, but since I switched tactics, it's been a long time since anyone asked to see my card, but back then I used to resort to the old switcheroo to a bank card. If I had to, I doubt it would pass the test if you handed it to them, but I thought I might say - I BELIEVE IT'S A VIOLATION OF THE CARD AGREEMENT TO SHOW THE ACCOUNT NUMBER TO A THIRD PARTY. Then I would offer to cover part of the number with my finger and SHOW them the card, but not give it to them. Point out my name is on the card.
