As for OP, sounds like they doubt you, which might be insulting, but the UPS Store has notary services.
I don't carry collision coverage on my cars.
I've had the occasion of getting in single car accident on my first day of a visit to France, for a specific event.
Damage was over 2000€, car was estimated to be out of commission for a month, so LoU was significant. I filled out the online claim form for AMEX Premium Rental Protection and essentially walked away from the event. Well, drove away. I took a ride with the tow driver back to the rental office, showed them the Amex form (which outlines the documentation the renter needs to provide to get paid) and rented a replacement. Whole thing took maybe 2 hours (I speak high school French and that helped some)
That was worth 18 bucks to me.
