Prices: Jetsgo, AC, Westjet, and Canjet - YOW to YYZ (or YHM)
Although prices on different Canadian routes, charged by AC and other airlines has been posted extensively, I thought it would be appropriate to post a comparison for this route, with Oct 15 departure, and Oct 17 return.
My wife and daughter are flying on this route. For a variety of reasons, for this trip, Aeroplan miles, Airmiles, and attaining a certain threshold tier status (by purchasing revenue AC tickets), were not a consideration in choosing the airline. The only consideration was purchasing tickets, on any airline offering the cheapest price.
I used the website sidestep.com, as well as the websites of the individual airlines, to review and compare the prices.
Jetsgo beat the other 3 - the other 3 airlines' cheapest ticket prices (including taxes and fees) were in the $250 range (+/- 10%). For 2 people, the individual (online) ticket price (before taxes and fees) was $49 (for the specific flight times they were interested in). This turned out to be less than $350 for the two of them (including all fees and taxes). Apparently, Jetsgo offers a discount if 2 or more passengers travel together - the one way ticket price (before taxes and other fees) was $87.
My point is that even we, who have never flown any Canadian airline, except CP and AC, may on certain occasions may be forced to look at cheaper alternatives. If AC does not watch out, it may eventually lose its #1 position in the Canadian airline market in terms of the numbers of passengers flown domestically (even on the YYZ-YOW or YYZ-YUL routes) - whether it is the leisure or the business market.
