I thought you were automatically upgraded at time of booking on M, B and Y fares.
PMU upgrade come out of G class with lower avaiability than V class for segment upgrades (elites only). You might want to explore your non-PMU upgrade option and perhaps the upgrade is avaiable that way.
(Assuming from 16 seats up front that it is a domestic flight).
