Also, Chase will issue cards to NRAs that have an SSN, such as students or those on internships with a J-1 visa. Half of my Chase cards were issued that way. AMEX did my global transfer with no SIN or SSN at all, just my passport.
AMEX and Bank of America both requested my SIN (and I was clear that I did not have a SSN) to check my Canadian credit report; Chase did not and would not even process an application via the phone for NRA (never mind online, that's a whole other thing). I don't have an SSN nor do I qualify for an ITIN unless I do some of the tricks suggested by these bloggers that were earlier chastised; I do not care to do that. I'm interested in doing something legitimate if anyone will take me, not gaming the system. Anyway, this is off topic. All I would like is for someone to issue a USD Aeroplan earning card that isn't Chase that I can get as a Canadian . . . so AMEX, or TD or CIBC if you're reading this . . . TD Bank (US) discontinuing the Aeroplan card they had was a real pain for me.
