Right, but even that doesn't prevent bogus fuel charges, like I got from Avis earlier this year when they claimed that I returned the car with only a half-filled tank.
In that case, I didn't have time to wait around for the check-in person. Noticed it on the receipt that was sent after I had left the rental station. I did get the amount refunded after calling in.
