Courtyard Aruba Resort Review

Had a one night stay at this recently re-opened property and figured I'd report back.

Mrs. PGF and I spent several nights in Aruba earlier this month. The plan was to stay at the Ritz Carlton the entire time. However, our flight arrived fairly late and we wanted to do some exploring by car the next day, so we figured it wasn't worth the $$ to stay at the RC on the first night. I also had an expiring 25,000 point free night cert so the choice to try the new CY for a night was a no brainer. I booked one night in a "Guest room, 1 King, Sofa Bed" with the cert. We booked the remaining nights at the RC.

The property is a renovation of the old windmill resort (the windmill is still there, but the blades are removed and it's looking pretty dilapidated). It's about a quarter mile walk to the nearest publicly accessible beach, and they run a shuttle to the beach during the day. We didn't visit the beach during our short stay.

Check in was easy. Checking the reservation on-line prior to arrival I had not been pre-upgraded, so I asked for one. They upgraded me to a "Guest Room, 1King, Sofa Bed, Pool View" room on the top (second) floor. The pool view rooms are the highest category. I asked about breakfast for Titanium members and the agent provided a pre-printed chit giving continental breakfast for Plat members and higher. Overall, the staff was friendly and accommodating.

The room was spacious and had a nice view of the central pool area. Our room did not have a balcony, and it appears that only the rooms with two queen beds have a balcony. The bathroom had a sliding frosted glass door, and there was also a fixed frosted glass panel between the shower and the main part of the room. This meant that if the light was on in the bathroom at night the light would shine through to the rest of the room (a pet peeve of mine). The sliding glass door was also not particularly tight to the door opening, so you could see out to the room from the bathroom. The overall fit and finish of the room was not particularly high, but it was functional.

We spent some time at the pool area and it was pleasant. Plenty of space for chairs and a well designed large pool.

The continental breakfast that the chit covered was toast, coffee/tea, juice, pastries, and a bowl of fruit. It was plenty of food. I didn't ask about potentially substituting for other items on the menu.

Overall it was a good stay at an OK property. I think the biggest draw is value for the dollar/points. As a category 4 property close to Palm Beach that can be had for about $170 per night all-in it's difficult to beat the value. If you want a higher end property or beach-front look elsewhere.
