SOU has very easy train connections (a very short walk to the terminal from Southampton Airport Parkway station) it's on the SWML that runs between London Waterloo and Bournemouth/Weymouth. It's very easy to get to from London as long as there's no engineering works on.

As long as there’s no engineering works is key. I’m from Southampton originally and my parents still live there. This year I’ve only paid for my rail travel 3 times on 10 trips due to significant delays and a lot of the weekends trains have been diverted via Fareham and Guildford taking up to an hour longer and involving a change enroute at Southampton.
With quick baggage delivery though and if the trains align arriving in London at Waterloo marginally longer than the tube from T5 or landing in LGW.
