The only benefit I can think of is the expiration date.
AA is the only of the Big 4 having an expiration date on their miles/points. Having a AA card does not exactly help you to freeze the expiration date. However, since you have the card, a small transaction on the card will extend your miles for another 18 months.
Also - you have less mail to destroy (Airlines share FFP information with credit card partners. So if you have a card, you most likely won't get a new offer for card.)
