So, why is there any difference in the bonus for buying miles for oneself or buying them as a gift? Can I not buy my wife 100,000 miles, and she buy me 100,000 miles and get 100% bonuses, rather than we each buy ourself miles and only get a 50% bonus?

(and I am not doing this, I only value miles at about 1 cent per mile, but it just seems ridiculous).
