The lady checked the previous day as well and she said there were no other options available....

Should I have asked to check with other SkyTeam members? Or she checks that automatically? I decided to hold these tickets for 2 weeks (option they provide) and if I don't confirm them, they'll just cancel....

What should I do now?

Ah--the great poker game of awards....

Should I take it (it's close, but not exact) or should I wait (maybe something will open up).....

I'm sure that you get a few different opinions on this, and since the system seems slow today--I'll just give what I would (and I think others also) do:

To me, four planes is just too much--even if you had a f/c seat on every segment.

This far out from your travel date--I would call back every day (maybe more than once a day) and ask the CSR to check and see if a better routing is available on the return trip that you have on hold.

I would ask if she is checking just DL or DL and Skyteam partners also. I don't know if there is a set hierarchy they use to search for flights, but it never hurts to remind the CSR--in a nice way of course.

Always be nice---even if the CSR isn't. If you feel as though a CSR is doing a perfunctory search for flights, then call back 10 minutes later and try the process all over again with another CSR.

I know--sounds sort of plodding and a lot of work. I don't know that there is another option at this point but to keep checking back and hope something opens up for the return trip.

Now--the decision comes when in two weeks, what if nothing else comes open-----??

I say--cross that bridge when you get to it--cross your fingers and call later this evening and see if anything improves on the return flights...
