I have almost always had trouble with the laptop power ports, both on the A321 (LAX-East Coast) and the A330 (transatlantic). I usually ascribed this to the fact that I don't use a native adapter going directly from the Empower port to my laptop, but instead go through an AC inverter, which (I believe) takes more power.
