Without naming names, it kind of cracks me up that each airline has hundreds if not thousands of posts with Platinum card users trying to find ways to actually utilize their $200 credit, while there's always one or more to point their finger at us and suggest that it can't possibly be improved and shouldn't be tinkered with.
I’ve said it several times and I’ll say it again; I’m glad Amex makes it as opaque as it is (but still possible) to utilize the full travel credit. If you can’t take the 15 minutes of research to figure out how to do it I thank you for subsidizing the rest of us. Make it easier to use and the benefit gets reduced.
But even if I they got rid of incidental travel credits, the main purpose of the card is the lounge access. Amex lounges and escape lounges are far superior than any domestic AA/UA lounge and most DL lounges. Hell if you fly DL and pay for a sky club membership the annual fee alone covers it.
Not to mention Uber and GH (for Gold) and easier to use with organic spend for the demographics they appear to be targeting. Amex, and it seems Chase too now, are playing the long game and targeting their cards to cater towards younger professionals. I think a good chunk of this forum which I’d guess skews older are slow to accept that
