To the comment above, it appears the gift value can cover shipping costs too.
As a European Ambassador memory who has actually stayed and spent a lot this year with Marriott (help not required to renew) to be given $50 rather than $100 as I am not in North America is somewhat a slap in the face, especially as the value is actually $42.50 considering their recent 15% off gift card sale that as a non American/Canadian I was also excluded from I shall add.
Sorry to me this does not come over as a nice gesture and certainly leaning more towards a slap in the face.
I get everyone is different but to me this is a marketing own goal and a situation where doing nothing would have been preferable as I take it as further proof Marriott are a company with no idea outside of NA exists and thus I shall further plan future stays and loyalty accordingly.
