Was wondering if anyone could provide up to date information on what to expect from the Hilton Playa del Carmen. My husband and I had booked a 9 night stay at the Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen from Dec 24 - Jan 2 in an ocean front club access room, where we have stayed many times and always enjoyed, but after reading current reviews we found the Club Lounge is closed (understandable with COVID). I contacted the hotel directly and it took two weeks and two emails to get anyone at the hotel to respond (not a good sign) and the information they provided about the alternative arrangements they are making for "Club" reservations did not seem worth the added expense of Club. I am a Hilton Diamond Member and found the Hilton Playa del Carmen hotel, literally next door to Hyatt (great location in Playa). I was unable to book the suite we wanted for the entire 9 days, but was able to secure the Presidential Suite for the first three nights and then an "Ocean View Junior Suite" for the remaining 6 nights. We have very little experience with "All Inclusive" Resorts so not sure what exactly to expect. Last week we spent a week at the Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana, which was all inclusive and enjoyed it, but am wondering if we will experience the same options in Playa with regard to restaurants. In the tripadvisor reviews I have read I keep hearing "up charges" for entrees or specific restaurants. Is that the case? We were able to dine at any of the restaurants at Hyatt Zilara, though options each night were limited because of they were only at about 20% occupancy, which was understandable. We did not experience any "up charges" for meals, or entrees. If we wanted better wine, we could buy a bottle, but that was the only thing we noticed about additional charges. Can someone provide details about the restaurants? Are they all buffet style (not a fan), do the restaurants have outdoor dining options (we are avoiding dining indoor during COVID). Anyone recall if they have sparkling wine available throughout the resort that can be served throughout the day? We found the sparkling wine drinkable at Zilara, but you never got a buzz, as it was only 5% alcohol. Any input on food/drink options would be greatly appreciated. With regard to the rooms, anyone know if they do daily maid service if requested? And/or nightly turn down service? Thanks in advance for any information.
