EdJ, we have flown MCO-JFK/CVG/ATL-CDG-BCN/FCO/ATH at various times, stopping over in CDG on the way in or the way back depending on what was available and which had the best connections and times. Don't hesitate to ask a CSR to look for other possibilities if she/he first comes up with an option that is too long or too many connections. Checking on CO, NW and the other partners opens up a lot of other gateways that may work for you. At times when we could only get a double connection (e.g., MCO-ATL-NYC-CDG) on DL we've gone with better connections on AF or another Skyteam member. We've not flown coach but I think you can find many FT threads on the coach seating preferences in the various aircraft that the specific Skyteam airline flies. If I recall correctly, the coach seating is oft criticized but if this is to be a great adventure hopefully you can ignore the negatives of the means to get to the wonderful ends of a stopover in Paris and then on farther in Europe. A good companion, a decent individual seat video, and an Ambien or two can shorten any trip, even in coach. Can another FTer help EdJ with the "best" seating options, best video, food, etc. on various airlines that might fit his destinations? Again, let us know how you make out or if you need any additional advice.
