The important thing to remember, once clearing U.S. Immigration, is not to continue past the inspector and down the stairs. Instead, once cleared, you take three steps backward, and then circle around the room to the left -- in front of the yellow lines keeping the queues back from the inspection booths -- making your way around the immigration hall back through the doors through which you entered.
Please take note of SPN Lifer's advise, because I made the mistake of continuing past the inspector the first time I was there, with your tight connection, that's not a mistake you can afford to make.
