Took one last look at this before hitting the sheets and I'm glad I did - SKT-DK is absolutely correct.
Photo was taken at the entrance to the Flying Beaver bar and grill (stop giggling, you guys) which is more or less across the parking lot from YVR's South Terminal. It's where they operate the sea planes for passengers connecting on to various fishing lodges, or to destinations on Vancouver Island. What you see is the engine from a De Haviland DH-2 Beaver float plane, or at least a major chunk of it. Here's a pic of the exterior below for interest.
For what it's worth, if you were to fly to YYJ from here, there is a Flying Otter restaurant at the seaplane terminal in the Victoria inner harbour. And yes, they appropriately have an engine from a DH-3 Otter aircraft on display in their entrance.
