I just did DCA-MIA-MID in F, on miles, no status with AA (generally I am a UA customer). I was very pleased Friday evening with the turkey and Havarti cheese sandwich served. In fact it was one of the better sandwiches I've had recently. A fair amount of meat and the lettuce was fresh. The FA was fantastic about service - beverage refills offered proactively. I sent a compliment note to AA today because the service was so good and while I had no food on the MIA-MID segment, the service was also excellent!
As far as I understand from the labeling of the package of the sandwich, the sandwich is prepared at the catering facility for AA.
It's definitely not pre-packaged and pre-manufactured like supermarket-style sandwiches.

One is junk food and one is not a place that you could have a decent lunch but during my previous trip out of DCA, Dunkin Donuts and Five Guys were also open alongside Kapnos Taverna.
