Also applies to other carriers including AT&T, which I roam from in Japan and it’s subpar even on Softbank roaming, compared to my Japanese SoftBank phone. Identical phone models too.
This isn’t just a Japan thing. I think roaming phones on any network are deprioritized compared to actual customers of the direct network. It’s a logical business decision for the most part as your direct customers would come tribute more to revenue than short term roaming customers from another network.
