Not sure. It was a new layout with a cupholder. I doubt the seats were cheap so its just incompetence on AS's part. I know the FT groups and various people involved in them seem to have close ties (or even a business relationship with) to the airlines. hasn't anyone brought this up with them? Getting a seat that has enough padding seems very basic.

The cupholder is a giveaway that it was an A320/A321. Sadly, they are less comfortable than the old seats in the 737s but I don't find them to be uncomfortable. The seat pitch still sets them above the standard recliners found on other airlines IMO.
