I paid for an upgrade from economy to Comfort + on a 3x3 that guaranteed an open 2x2 seat arrangement. To be clear, I was less concerned about myself getting covid as I had it and nearly died from it last spring but more about being a vector. I have a student at home from college with a rotating group of young friends going in and out of my home (and often times dropping their masks as soon as they enter my son's lair). We still don't know how long immunity lasts, how strong is or if it is possible to catch or be asympto for a variant.
