Regarding MRTC -- I saw plenty of print ads showing a person sitting in a seat with what appeared to be several feet of space in front of him.
I bought a ticket on AA shortly after the fleet was reconfigured, and I was very disappointed at having additional legroom that would have to be determined with a ruler, relative to what the ads said.
I later discovered that one problem was that I sat aft of the wing on a 757 and fore of the wing on an MD80, which is the opposite of what you should do if you want more room. The 757 no longer has MRTC, but when I fly on AA, I choose a seat in the back of an MD80.
If AA hadn't basically lied about legroom, I might have given them another chance, sitting in the front of a 757 or the back of an MD80. Instead, I said screw them and now have a Delta Medallion card to prove it.
Delta's MD80 doesn't have as much legroom as AA, but it does have more legroom than any other plane in the Delta fleet. The 757, 767 and the worst, the MD90, are torture chambers as far as legroom is concerned.
Now switching from domestic flights where legroom is not a big deal to international where it matters... I will NEVER fly Delta internationally, and no, I am not being facetious. A cute Platinum Medallion card does not make up for the fact that 767 coach is intolerable on a nine hour flight. I will also give myself an extra day so that if AA cancels my flight, I can demand an AA flight the next day rather than accept a re-routing on Delta.
