You can, in fact, pay for a $100 trip with a $502 certificate.

You will then have a $402 certificate to use next time.

Now, Future Flight Credit can be another matter entirely, but looking at my app, they're applying only my ETC, not my FFC. (I have some of both). As it stands, there's no scam here -- just a little bit of marketing-speak: Your price isn't really $0, it's $100 out of your ETC balance. But the amount of new money is $0.
