In dozens of flights over the past several years, I've only had the in-seat power not work one time. The light over the outlet was red (meaning the system had been disengaged from the cockpit) and the flight attendants couldn't/didn't get it turned back on.

If the light above the outlet is green, I'd guess it's your equipment.
