Question What options for a long-haul if connecting short-haul gets cancelled?

I have flights to Brazil booked in February, DUS-LHR-GRU. I'm fairly sure LHR-GRU will keep operating daily, but not so sure about DUS-LHR which keeps getting suspended and might well be down to 0 or 1 daily again in February.

Now I have a home in both DUS and London, so I really wouldn't mind flying to LHR on EW or even just driving over and leaving my car in London - should the DUS-LHR leg get cancelled.

But... Will that even be an option? Do BA allow skipping a connecting flight when it's cancelled with no viable alternative?

I guess another option will always be to move it to AMS, but at that point I might as well drive straight to London...
