I like what I've heard so far.
-I have to emphasize that the free newspaper should be daily. Some hotels think there are only five days in a week. There are actually seven. And newspapers are printed each of those seven days.
-Fresh flowers and/or healthy plants in the room
-Actually resolving whatever problems you call about. It's really annoying when you call and ask them to repair something, but then they just ignore your request.
-Duvet. Turndown service should remove the bedspread to a closet and replace it with a nice duvet.
-Being ready to serve. Once I was returning to my suite with guests and had a bottle of champagne in the room from the night before. It was warm. Rather than be bothered and having to wait, I asked the front desk agent on the way in if it was possible to have some ice delivered to my room. His answer? "Yes, you can call housekeeping."
Well, yes, I know that it is possible for ice to be delivered, but obviously I was politely instructing the agent to call housekeeping for me.
