I'll echo the comments above: totally not worth any unusual / incremental spend to get LT status.
I might naturally run into 1,000 nights eventually. But this program changes and devalues itself so much - far more than Starwood and Marriott have over the past 20 years - that I wouldn't bank on Diamond being worth much far down the road.
We're doing an Asian trip when international travel reopens, look forward to spending several hundred thousand points on Conrads when we do. That's about the "peak Diamond" experience, as far as I know.
