Vueling: New cabin baggage rules Nov 2020

Vueling have changed their cabin baggage rules. It has been communicated in an email that you have to think about before realising what they have done:

Originally Posted by Vueling email
We want you to be happy with your Vueling experience. So, in order to speed up our boarding and disembarking processes, we have designed a new service that will enable you to travel with your cabin bag on board with you.

Although all our fares include 2 items of hand luggage free of charge, from now on the cabin bag will either be carried on board or checked in at the check-in desks, according to the type of booking. And, as a new feature, we have also increased the size allowance for the underseat bag.

===
Basic fare: 1 piece in cabin + 1 checked piece

- Your cabin bag (10 kg and 55x40x20 cm) must be checked in free of charge at our check-in desks. (Very small print at the bottom of the email: *Otherwise, it will be removed at the boarding gate and placed in the hold at an extra cost").
- You may carry one underseat bag (40x30x20 cm).
====
Optima, Family and TimeFlex fares; Premium customers and passengers who book Space One and Space Plus seats
- Your cabin bag (10 kg and 55x40x20 cm) will go in the overhead locker.
- Your underseat bag (40x30x20 cm) must be placed under the seat in front of you.
=====

So, if you choose the Basic Fare and want to take your cabin bag on board the plane with you, you can add the 2 pieces in cabin service as an extra to your booking. If you choose this option, you will also be able to enjoy Priority Boarding and be among the first to board the plane.
Only a limited number of bags can go in the overhead lockers, so we advise you to add this service during the booking process.

Note the use of "happy", "new service", "new feature", to actually we mean "we are making Basic fares less attractive". It applies for bookings from 10 November 2020 onwards, older bookings will retain the same conditions though the gate may check in large bags without fee (which was a rare possibility but not new). The charge for having a "cabin bag" that has to go in the overheards is €25. Dutyfree bags are still allowed so long as they can go under the seat in front.
