Reminds me of an incident at Phoenix Sky Harbor. We taxied to the runway, the engines started to roar and we started moving down the runway. Suddenly, the reverse thrusters and the brakes came on heavy. This was in the days of open overheads and a few items started coming out of them as we made an overly fast turn onto the exit ramp to the taxiway with the plane leaning. Nobody was hurt by the falling items, thankfully.

As we turned onto the taxiway and slowed down with the passengers holding on for dear life, the attendant calmly announced the full spiel "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Sky Harbor International Airport where the local time is ...". She even told us the local temperature!

That quickly calmed down everyone and many of us laughed. Then the captain got on to the intercom and announced that a small plane had started to take off using this runway from the opposite end towards us apparently due to confusion and that "While we are much bigger than he is, I decided that discretion is the better part of Valor". Shortly afterwards, we returned to the runway and resumed our takeoff.

I can't imagine what the guy in the tower screamed to the pilot of the other plane but in a previous experience as a student pilot on final approach while landing at ABQ, when I told my instructor there was another small plane sitting on our runway, he called the tower who quickly diverted us and who did a lot of yelling at the other pilot and that was a plane just sitting at the end of the runway and I was willing to touch down beyond him as we had lots of room. That pilot apparently did not know the difference between "taxi to the runway" and "taxi on the runway".
